When is the best time to fish for paddlefish in the Fred Robinson Bridge area?
Although a number of fish reside in the river year round, most fish don’t migrate out of the reservoir until sufficient river flows trigger them to move upstream. The “trigger” flow in the Missouri River has been observed to be about 14,000 cubic feet per second. After this flow is reached, the paddlefish ready to spawn that year move out of the reservoir and are available in the river for snagging. This flow historically occurs in late April or early May. By mid-June, fishing becomes quite slow.
