When is the Best Time to Climb Mt. Kinabalu?
Although the recommended climbing season is from late February to July, the best time to climb is actually in the months of March and April when it is usually dry. September to December are usually the wet months and climbing becomes more arduous when it rains. Although delineation can be made of wetter and drier seasons, the rains on Kinabalu are fairly unpredictable and they can still occur at any time of the year. Tips for First Time Climbers • Try not to carry anything in your hands at all. Use a light back pack if you so desire. • Pack your things that you want the porters to carry inside 2-3 layers of plastic bags (in case it rains). • On the first day, you will have to PACK YOUR OWN LUNCH (preferably sandwiches). • Don’t worry about others – just walk at your own comfortable pace and start slowly.
