When is the best time to book flights for the cheapest airfares?
Book as far in advance as you can. Airlines release their fares about ten months in advance and those are normally the best prices. Recently most airlines serving the far East and Australia have been increasing fares to try to claw back some of their losses from the last couple of years I am afraid. You can wait in the hope that one will announce a sale but it is a bit of a lottery. I fly to Australia about three times a year and have only once been caught out with cheaper fares becoming available closer to the date of travel. I do agree with another answer that you should look at different days of the week as airlines will price differentiate according to when they get the most custom. Avoid public and school holidays because fares shoot up at these times because they know they can get away with it.
