When is the best time of year to go visit Australia?
Keep in mind the seasons are reversed in the Southern Hemisphere, Australia included. A USA winter is an Australian summer and vice-versa. Like the USA, there is a big difference in climate between the north and south of the country (Aus. is about the size of the US lower 48). However, Australia lies quite a bit closer to the equator than the USA and so has a generally warmer climate. The northern third of the country lies in the tropics and therefore gets a lot of rain in the summer (the Wet Season). The best time to visit the north of the country, including most of the outback and much of the Great Barrier Reef is in the “winter” – Jun-Sept. Temps. in the 70s and 80s, typically clear and dry.
