Strawberries are for … overeating. Especially at the Strawberry Festival in Bellevue, which features strawberry shortcake eating contests among other activities. With strawberry season upon us, the festival gives families a chance to indulge in the sweet berry, learn more about the Eastside with a Strawberry Shortcake Walk and paint strawberries on cheeks. The festivities take place at Crossroads Park starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and ending at 8 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Other activities include music, exhibits, a classic auto show and historical agricultural exhibits. Parking is available at Kelsey Creek Center at 148th Avenue Northeast and Main Street, with a shuttle to the park.

Bellevue will go crazy for berries this weekend as the city’s Strawberry Festival returns to Crossroads Park. The festival will feature entertainment on the King County Library System Main Stage, strawberry shortcake, historical displays and activities presented by the Eastside Heritage Center, and fresh produce from local farmers. There will be food for all tastes and over 70 vendor booths, from hand crafts to home improvement. The Family Fun Area will be abuzz all weekend long, with carnival games, inflatable bouncers, face painting, balloons, the Mini-Mountain rock-climbing wall, pedal cars and a big purple slide. In addition to the BECU Classic Auto Show today, STAR 101.5 will be on site for a kids My ID Card event. And, don’t forget the strawberry shortcake eating contests. Free parking and shuttle bus every 15 minutes from Kelsey Creek Center (148th Ave & Main St. in Bellevue).
