When is Shrove Tuesday (pancake day) this year?
Shrove Tuesday will be celebrated on 05 February 2008 as a pre-cursor to the start of the season of Lent. In the middle ages, when religious customs in England were strictly observed, people would embark on a strict fast until Easter. As there was no method of preserving food, all perishables, eggs, flour, fats etc were all used up before Ash Wednesday.
