When Is Oral Leukoplakia Cancerous?
People who suffer from Leukoplakia have a white patch on the tongue or inside of the cheek, which cannot be wiped off. Usually 80 percent of the patients who have this disease are over 40. The main reason for leukoplakia is a source of irritation like tobacco, smoking, dentures, rough teeth, crowns etc. The patches can clear up in some week’s time or months, after the cause of irritation is removed. In rare instance, leukoplakia can turn into blood cancer. The doctors have registered that 3 percent of leukoplakia cases can turn cancerous in a time span of 10 years.
