When is Lake Lure holding a memorial service for Patrick Swayze?
The body of deceased actor Patrick Swayze has been cremated, E! News reports. Citing the late star’s death certificate, the news media furthermore claims that his ashes are currently being stored at his lawyer’s office on behalf of his wife of 34 years, actress Lisa Niemi. In the meantime, a memorial service to honor Patrick has been confirmed to be held at the North Carolina town of Lake Lure, where his hit 1987 film “Dirty Dancing” was filmed. A memorial is scheduled to be staged at 7 P.M. Saturday, September 19 at Firefly Cove, a housing development that was Camp Chimney Rock when “Dirty Dancing” was filmed. The event is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Firefly Cove development, where scenes from the film “Dirty Dancing” were shot more than 20 years ago. Swayze, who starred in the movie, died Monday of pancreatic cancer. Firefly Cove is off Boy’s Camp Road, which connects to U.S. 74. “We’ve had a lot of calls coming in to the community. That’s why this was put together,” said Michelle Whitaker, communications manager with the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority. “So many folks were asking what they could do to make a difference, where they could go,” she said. Besides paying tribute to Swayze, the event will help promote awareness of pancreatic cancer, Whitaker said. Speakers will include Rev. Everette Chapman, who was pastor at Fairfield Mountain Chapel in Lake Lure when the movie was made, and Peggy Keys, who’s active in the Pancreatic Action Network. Whitaker advises people who attend to bring flashlights instead of candles. Parking is somewhat limited at Firefly Cove, she sai
