When is it recommended to use Variable Bit Rate (VBR) vs. Constant Bit Rate (CBR)?
Variable Bit Rate is a technology whereby the DVR dynamically adjusts the bit rate based on the amount of motion; the more motion there is, the higher the bit rate in order to ensure high quality video for the “important” portions of the stored recording. This option is suitable for organizations that do not have a sever bandwidth limitation or storage capacity limitation. Constant Bit Rate (also known as Fixed Bit Rate) records the video at a predefined bit rate all the time, regardless of the effect on video quality. This option is best suited for organizations that have limited network bandwidth or very limited storage capacity. Note that it is important to set the bit rate at an appropriate value to support the resolution and fps selected. E.g., 4CIF at 25/30 fps requires at least 1Mbps. Fixing the bit rate to anything lower will not provide the desired quality. What are “covert cameras” and how are they defined? Covert cameras refer to cameras that a Net DVR user is not supposed t
