When is Approval needed for Land Clearing and Tree Removal?
Before conducting any type of tree or vegetation removal on residential or rural properties, it is recommended that you contact Council. It is your responsibility to ensure that the appropriate approvals are obtained or you could risk a fine. Penalties for Unauthorised Tree Clearing For minor unauthorised tree/vegetation removal Council may issue a $600 on the spot fine and an Order to plant new trees and vegetation and maintain those trees and vegetation to a mature growth. If the unauthorised tree/vegetation removal is deemed to be significant, Council may take the matter directly to court. The court may impose penalties up to $1.1 million and direct the person to plant new trees and vegetation, and maintain those trees and vegetation to a mature growth.
