Answer Hi m, I was just reading Supernanny’s book and she says it’s best to start around the age of two when they’re showing all the signs of readiness. I guess my kids were ready before that because they were both pretty much potty trained by around that age (though it’s true as Nanny says that there was some backtracking!). Apart from the usual techniques we gave them extra incentives to get over the final hurdles (going #2 in the potty). In our son’s case it was a train from the Thomas series we kept on the mantle, in our daughter’s case we told her she couldn’t go to playschool until she was out of pull-ups–which strictly speaking wasn’t true–she surprised us by finishing within the next couple of weeks, so we had to find a playschool that would take her right away after that! It is not always easy in those last stages. I get quite a few questions about this and when we were going through it ourselves got quite a bit of advice from other parents about it.
