When installing Windows NT 4.0 to a SCSI disk, the host adapter is seen but the attached disks are not. Whats Wrong?
It turns out that NT requires the SCSI controller be first in the device table after detection. When NT boots, the devices are detected and then the user is prompted for any devices and driver disks. When NT prompts “Setup is now detecting your hardware”, press F6 to stop that process and go directly to prompting for devices and driver install. When the drivers are installed for the SCSI controller, it becomes first in the device table. Then, when the install continues, device detection occurs, files are downloaded and the next step (which did not appear for me earlier) was disk detection and partitioning. [EditorGF] I’ve also seen this step to be necessary when the host adapter drivers on the NT CD think they recognize the card, but don’t actually work with it. I think it was when the AHA2940U2W first came out and the 2940UW drivers on the NT CD detected it but wouldn’t actually work. Installing the U2W drivers in the above manner, solved the problem.
