When installing piping, what are the advantages of using a double-wall system?
Although the initial costs are higher, double-walled piping systems can easily pay for themselves by limiting your environmental liability. Double-wall piping is designed so that a leak from your primary piping—the portion of the pipe that the fuel travels through—is captured and contained by the secondary piping. In a properly installed system, the piping slopes toward a containment basin at a low point in the piping. The containment can be automatically monitored to alert the operator in the event of a fuel release. The advantage to this set-up is that in the event of a breach in the primary piping, the secondary will contain the fuel preventing a release into the environment. This means no release into the environment and no expensive bill for the subsequent clean up. Anyone who has been through the clean-up process knows that the expense can be enormous and the impact on the business intrusive. Another consideration is that the House Energy Bill of 2005 has mandated double-walled s
