I would hardly compare anything Aryan to English, as they both stem from a common ancestor: Proto-Indo-European. Now, English is advantageous to India for many reasons, but it is most important in its capacity as a neutral medium of communication. English serves as a good means of inter-ethnic communication as it has absolutely no links to any ethnic group in India, whereas Hindi is linked to the Indo-Aryans of North-Central India. I know that many Tamils, for example, are extremely proud of their distinct linguistic heritage and would accept English as a “lingua franca” before Hindi, as they may view it as an affront to their culture.
