Two specific words might give you an idea of the difference. The words are “why” and relationships!” Lets see how these words become important. Grade school science was mostly a brief introduction to a limited amount of earth science features. High school earth science is a year long course with more in-depth exploration of the topics. It includes the study of earths features and processes. Students are challenged to learn WHY the features form and WHY the processes occur to change our planet over time. You know about earthquakes and hurricanes. But, in high school earth science, you would learn why earth quakes are common before volcanic eruptions. You would learn where hurricanes come from and why they occur in late sumer in the United States. In high school, you explore relationships between topics of earth science.
