When I try to install OS X on my Mac, none of the hard drives are selectable, all of them are grayed out. How do I select a hard drive for installation?

OS X needs to reside on the first 8GB of a hard drive. Basically, this means if you have a hard drive larger than 8GB, you must partition it, making the first partition 8GB or smaller. OS X must be installed on this partition. OS 9 can reside on either partition.
