When I try to import my Oriana graphs as metafiles (WMF or EMF files or through the clipboard) into Corel Draw they are not displayed properly, or an error message is given. What is wrong?
A. A metafile is basically a collection of instructions for how to draw the lines, circles, boxes, text, etc. that make up an image. When metafiles are imported into vector drawing programs like Corel Draw the drawing program must convert these instructions to its own internal format. Often the program can misinterpret the instructions, or simply cannot reproduce the instruction in its internal format. One common example is with text that has been rotated rather than being displayed normally along the horizontal. Some programs don’t allow rotated text and others can get confused with the direction of rotation. To test how well your drawing program does at importing metafiles please try out the test files at the Companion Software website. It provides a WMF file you can import, plus a Windows Clipboard file (.CLP file) that shows exactly what it should look like. In our experience Corel Draw has various problems with importing metafiles, and the problems often change with each new versi
