When I tried to use the web start demo jide-demo.jar and write code using JIDE APIs, I got all kinds of compile errors. Why is that?

The jide-demo.jar is heavily obfuscated. It is not intended to use as an API library. Many public classes are obfuscated and renamed to some other names. That’s why it won’t work if you try to use it as a library. Please see answer above to get an evaluation package if you want to use JIDE APIs.
