When I tried to lift a left hind leg, both legs kicked out and the cow almost went down. What did I do wrong on the stimulation?
A. When doing this procedure you have to stimulate the femoral nerve on the side of the spine you want to work on. You also have to insert the whole probe length (that’s on Friesians, Jerseys only ¾ lengths) to reaches the nerve. So when doing the left leg you insert the probe and then slide it to the left side you want to work on. Once you touch the nerve the cow will lean to the opposite side and with her weight displace of her left side you can lift the leg. Sometimes they kick their leg out themselves and you can lift it higher if needed. Doing the front feet follow the same procedure. What happened in your situation is that the probe was in the middle of both femoral nerves and that’s when you experience both legs kicking out. If you working on cross bread cows, their femoral nerves are a bit harder to locate. With a little experience you will be on it. This is the only procedure using the Pacifier that you insert the whole probe. All other treatments you only insert the probe ½ w
