when i start my 2000 VW jetta (its a standard) is sounds like a diesel?
it idles rough when i start it and when i turn it makes a hight pitched noise but when i drop it into neutral the noise goes away, but if i put it back ino gear the noise will come back and take a while to go away. are these two problems related? i just got an oil change the oil dip stick shows that is has a good amount of oil, and the diesel noise goes away after driving it for a while(it only happenes when it is idling, it idles at 900rpm) A: Make sure there is oil in it… Jiffylubes and the like NEVER put the oil drain plug in tight enough. You drive away and you’re out of oil. Happened to two friends of mine, one was lucky enough to get them to pay for it. Otherwise have someone check your oil pump, no matter what it is if your car sounds like a diesel (and isn’t) it isn’t getting enough oil, and YOU SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT. The whine doesn’t sound like it is related to the diesel noise to me.
