When I have received the information about the arb is there a sense of urgency about placing the bet(s), I mean, how often (if ever) do the bookies change the odds and ruin a good arb opportunity?
It really depends on the bookmaker and the event. A series of large bets on a minor tennis match will attract bookmaker attention quickly (within 30 minutes). Major soccer matches have huge turnover. Our bets are hardly noticed and the arbs can last for several days as long as they aren’t copied in forums etc.
