When i do sit ups, it always hurts my neck, why?

NEVER pull your head up while doing sit ups. Your fingers should be laced and behind your neck with your elbows out of sight. Keep your eyes looking up to the ceiling. Do not pull on your neck, pull up using your ab muscles…that is what you are trying to strengthen, your abs. It will be tough at first, but that is why are you are working out. So, bottom line. Do NOT use your neck to get you up, concentrate on pulling up with your abs, elbows out of site on either side of your head and eyes to the ceiling. Inhale as you are going up and exhale when you get to the “top” of the movement. You should also be contracting your abs as you are doing the sit up. Hope this helps. Exercise should feel great and not hurt. Make sure you cool down afterwards too!

Your neck hurts because you are isolating your head from the body. Your body isn’t use to lifting your neck so thats why your neck hurts when you do sit ups. When you do sit ups try to keep your chin touching your chest and have your shoulders off the floor. Also, don’t try to do sit ups with your arms behind your head because that can strain your neck…..You might feel like your hurting your neck when doing sit ups but after you do them for awhile your body will get use to it and your neck wont be the pain no more. Your abs will!
