When I click on Add Subtotals in a worksheet, weird things appear on the extreme left side of my screen. What is going on?
A. The subtotal function is a macro. The additional options on the left side of the screen allow you to expand or collapse the detail of those subtotals. Clicking on the plus expands the worksheet providing the detail of what makes up the subtotal. Clicking on the minus, removes the detail. The numbers expand and collapse in the same manner. The numbers 1, 2, and 3 above the small + and – buttons expand and collapse all of the subtotals at once, as opposed to working on a specific subtotal one at a time.
