The monitor screen becomes blank after you make the resolution higher because your current monitor does not support that resolution. Try a lower setting with a lower bit depth. To see which resolutions your monitor can support under windows all you have to do is right click on your desktop, click on properties and select the settings tab. There click on the advanced button. Now here click again on the monitor tab and select the check box which reads “hide modes that this monitor cannot display”. Then click on the adapter tab and click the button “list all modes”. You will be able to see a list of resolutions your monitor is able to display. And if the display goes blank after you change the resolution all you have to do is hit the esc key in the keyboard to revert back to your original display.
