I’m not just talking about the obvious things like different languages, but even more subtle differences such as the role of gestures or the meanings of expressions, or nature of the phonemes used (think of how difficult a time you would have trying to understand the clicks and tones of the !Kung people in Northern Namibia). And that is between members of the same species. So it would seem at first that the ability to communicate disappears *much* faster than genetic differences can start to cause speciation. However, humans have a remarkable ability to communicate with each other given a short amount of time … so these differences may just be local regional things, and a child raised in any society could easily learn the communication modes of that society.
