Unless you had taxes withheld, the IRS never asked for any forms other than the W-2 and 1099-R. Essentially from when you file until May, you are on the honor system. In May the IRS gets their own copies of the forms and about 6 months to a year later compares all tax returns to see if the numbers match. In the unlikely event the IRS thinks your numbers look off, they will send you a letter with a fax number for you to send a copy to.

The 1098 from your lender is all the documentation you need. You don’t send it in with your return, but have it on file if the IRS asks to see it.
