When does the timing chain need replacing?
Most certain you will have a timing belt, a piece of rubber. Older engines, or ones which are seriously powerful, run on timing chains, as they are infinitely more reliable, but a little noisier, and cost a little more power to run. Change your belt now, but be advised that it is the surfaces of the pulleys and tensioners which MUST also be carefully inspected, and if they are worn, they must also be replaced. A new belt, on worn pulleys and tensioners, will be ruined rapidly, and a snapped belt, when the engine is running, can spell VERY expensive damage.
