When does the new remake of Final Fantasy VII come out?
It’s not. SquareEnix has never said they were remaking it, and in fact have pretty much made a routine of denying it about every 4 months in response to EGM’s Rumor Mill loving to reprint the same garbage over and over. Remakes never sell as well as the original. Remakes never sell as well as a comparable quaility game released at the same time as the remake. If you don’t change much/anything, a lot of people will be like “I already own that game, I’m not buying it again”. If they change much of anything, people who played and loved the original will say “It’s not the same game! They butchered it!”. It’s a no-win situation for the publisher. Therefore, Remakes don’t make much money by themselves. Tetsuya Nomura, the man in charge of FF7 and who would be in charge of a remake, estimated that it would take 300 people 5 years to make at the quality of that PS3 tech demo.
