A2. The ban on the use of lead (and other heavy metals and some flame retardants) will be effective from 1 July 2006. This is a tight timescale for transition to the new lead-free soldering technologies, and it requires that the necessary actions are started as soon as possible. The requirements for labelling for recycling (WEEE) will come into force in August 2005, and these will be transposed into UK law by the UK government.
