When does my child start Pre-school and Primary School?

She’s not going to be the year below, she’s just going to be one of the oldest in her year, which believe me, is a very good thing. I am a teacher and I always cringe when people tell me they’re expecting a baby in August as it means they will be the youngest in the class, but often start at exactly the same time as the oldest in the class so obviously, being almost a whole year younger, means they’re not as ‘ready.’ Generally in the lower ability sets in infant school classes you will find a lot of the youngest children in the class. Obviously some children are very bright so being young doesn’t hold them back, but for some it really is an issue. The case in the news recently about the twins being born either side of midnight on August 31st really highlighted how flawed the intake system is, as how can someone born just a few minutes older than somebody else really be ready to start school a whole year earlier? I think it should really be up to the parents, and the pre-school/nursery
