When does brave become foolhardy?
Brave is when you are willing to take tremendous risks for a possible positive result, such as saving the lives of others, speaking up in public to alter the direction of the country or of a group in a positive fashion, or starting up a risky business or venture that stands to help many people. Foolhardy is taking tremendous risks for the thrill of taking tremendous risks, or without having done the necessary work to give yourself the best possible chance of success. Either may result in your death or ruin, but if you’ve done your best to make a success of it, and helped others on the way, you are a success even if you fail. And by the way, different people may call you brave or foolhardy for the same action, but sometimes it just means they haven’t done the necessary work to understand what you are doing, or it means they lack the courage to do it themselves and therefore find it easier to tear you down than to admit their own cowardice.
