When does a cat go into heat for the first time?
A cat’s first heat is usually around 6mos., which is why vets recommend spaying them at that time so they are fully mature in that respect. However, they can go into heat as early as 4mos (rare). My kitten went into heat at 5mos and we had her spayed shortly thereafter. So, if you’re planning to have your cat fixed, I’d err on the early side of 6mos based on my experience. There is some evidence that it’s better to have a cat spayed prior to their first heat cycle as there is a risk of problems with the mammary glands later.
