When do we use bus, star or ring network topology?

My god. Are they still foisting that crap? We use star. We use STAR STAR STAR or mesh. We don;t friggin use ring and bus, because we SERIOUSLY have GOTTEN PAST where routers cost hundreds of dollars, and switches can’t be found. Which is probably not the answer they are looking for. Token rings don’t have packet collisions because only one machine at a time has the “Great Talking Stick” Bus topology facilitates ease of connection and uses less cable (which used to cost a ton of money, but is now pennies a foot) Star topology takes more cable, and has one main disadvantage, which is that if the hub goes down, the whole star is out. (unless somehow in planning your network, you figured in a redundant $50 router…) Ease of connection, and non disruption of service during installation and removal of devices, and easy troubleshooting makes the Star the best design for any network that will be dynamic (so all of them) in nature. Good luck on the exam.
