When do i switch to dog food from puppy chow?

I think you can switch around 8 months, but your breed could be different. Would the vet know?? Also, if you are feeding the dog “Puppy Chow”, that is one of the worst foods you can give them. Make sure corn is NOT the # 1 ingredient, or they could get intestinal problems. I know the better dog foods are a little more expensive, but I think it’s worth it in the end. Try a brand like “Wellness” or “Merrick”, which are very good. Hope this helps!!

You should still do it at 1 year, at least that’s what my vet recommends…I think it’s awesome that you were willing to rescue him…not many people have the time or patience for that type of dog.

you never need to feed puppy food, many breeders start with adult, pups grow slower than resulting in fewer growth related issues such as hip dysplasia. If you are using puppy chow, be aware there are much better foods out there. check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com to see some better options.

I’d ask the vet. I have a maltese that’s now a little over 10 months and I’m about to switch him. He’s been fully grown for a couple months, though. I’d think the vet would be able to tell you and I’d be surprised if it went beyond a year.

No later than 6 months. He’ll be completely filled out at about 2 1/2. The old Purina commercial with the nifty jingle, “Puppy Chow, for a full year…til he’s full grown” is very outdated. Many foods are offering an “”ALL LIFE STAGES” brand…..that would be fine to switch to immediately.
