When do I re-caulk retrofit windows?
On One Hand: After Dry FitAccording to The International Window Corporation, after dry fitting, the installer of a retrofit window should first run a bead of sealant (caulk) around the exterior edge of the window where it comes in contact with the wall.On the Other: Once Secured to OpeningOnce secured to the opening, the installer should run a bead of sealant (caulk) around the exterior flush fin of the window. He would then caulk the interior edges of the window using a backing rod to fill in the excessive gaps from the previous window.Bottom LineThe installer of a retrofit window will need to caulk at two different times.
