When do i put the frosting on the cake?

Don’t put cakes in the fridge- they don’t need refrigeration and being in the fridge will dry it out. Keep it in a cake tin or airtight container, keep the frosting in the fridge then take it out half an hour or so before you want the cake to let it come to room temperature and then put the frosting on the cake so when you serve it the whole thing is room temperature. Once everyone’s had their piece, you could put it all back in the fridge if you’re worried about keeping the frosting fresh then but you really shouldn’t because cakes don’t like cold and even if the frosting is cream cheese based it’ll still be ok out of the fridge for a couple of days.
