When do I put someone in the recovery position?
The biggest reason to put someone into the recovery position is to prevent them from aspirating–meaning we don’t want vomit, saliva, etc getting into their windpipe and lungs (high, high infection risk). Keeping someone on their back shouldn’t effect their breathing status. So basically, put someone in the rescue position if they are breathing and unable to protect their airway–i.e. fainted, unconscious, etc. Always keep in mind that you need to keep their neck in line if they were trauma victims, so no recovery position for them!
