When do I need prepare a HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INVENTORY – CHEMICAL DESCRIPTION page for hazardous wastes?
You must complete a separate Hazardous Materials Inventory – Chemical Description page for each waste, including hazardous waste, medical waste and radioactive waste, handled at your facility in aggregate quantities equal to or greater than: • 500 pounds of a solid substance • 55 gallons of a liquid • 200 cubic feet of a compressed gas (calculated at standard temperature and pressure) If your business or facility always accumulates less than 55 gallons, 500 pounds, and/or 200 cubic feet of a waste onsite, you are not required to submit a Hazardous Materials Inventory – Chemical Description page for those wastes. Regardless of amount, waste generation is inspected, evaluated, and tracked by the County of San Diego Hazardous Materials Division (HMD) to monitor waste compliance and to determine the County of San Diego HMD permitting fees for a facility or business.
