When do baby ghost shrimp hatch from thier mom?
Ghost shrimp will hatch in the breeder net, but will not survive past a week. Jester is correct in how they complete this process, but in order for the babies to survive, they will need a brackish tank, with little to no current, and a well established tank with hard water and lots of plants such as java moss. The babies will need space to hide in (from other predators and their parents too), and the well established tank provides microscopic food for the first few days. The salt and other mineral content in a well established tank will provide the right nutrients for the babies to develop their exoskeleton and continue its growth. Don’t expect to see them for at least a couple of weeks after they hatch. They are no bigger than the tip of a freshly sharpened pencil, and they are completely see-through (hence the name). It’s best to let nature takes its course, although you can expect to see 20-30 babies hatch, only about 6 to 12 will survive past the first week.
