When did the Vietnam War start and end?
Historians list several start dates for the Second Indochina (Vietnam) War depending on their point of view. Those dates are — 1954 — Many historians consider that the Second Indochina War started before the First Indochina War (the War of Independence 1947-1954) ended. They give this date because the US sent CIA operatives into the northern zone to destroy local infrastructure such as Dikes, Dams, Railway junctions and tracks, Coal and Oil depots etc. The CIA also carried out a “Dis-information Campaign” saying the Viet Minh would start persecuting the Catholics (85% of Vietnamese are Mahayana Buddhist and 15% are Catholic). Many Catholics fled to the southern zone.
