When did the standoff at Ruby Ridge happen?”
Ruby Ridge was the site of a violent confrontation and siege in the U.S. state of Idaho in 1992. It involved Randy Weaver, his family, Weaver’s friend Kevin Harris, federal agents from the United States Marshals Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The incident was cited as a motivation for the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995.
The standoff began when federal marshals were sent to ambush and arrest Randy Weaver for failure to appear in court on a weapons charge (it was later revealed he had been sent a letter with the wrong date) and a firefight ensued (it remains unclear how the firefight started). The standoff ended when a civilian negotiator intervened, but not before Randy Weaver’s wife, son, and daughter were killed along with a US Marshal.
