When did the red army first enter germany during ww2?
In October, 1944, the Red Army entered what was then East Prussia (part of Germany). The Soviets ended up annexing this territory and calling it Kaliningrad. In January 1945, the Red Army crossed the Oder River and entered into Germany proper. The Elbe River is actually in central Germany–that is where Russian and US forces linked up. By the time the Red Army got to the Elbe, they’d already been in Germany for some time.
