When did the Provincial Government gain control of its natural resources?
At the time of its creation, Alberta’s natural resources (including Crown land, timber, coal, oil, and natural gas) remained under the control of the Dominion Government. In December 1929, Premier John E. Brownlee and Prime Minister Mackenzie King signed the Natural Resources Transfer Agreement which transferred control of the resources to the Alberta government.
