When did the poeple of Lebanon start talking about a common culture or language?
I still think the country is struggling over a common culture. While there may be two major common cultures, I do not think the country as a whole has reached a consensus. The continuous fight between Syrians and anti-Syrians has kept Lebanon divided for centuries. Even though Lebanon has fallen under the control of various numbers of rulers, and now the country has even declared itself independent from foreign rulers, it is still the same struggle that keeps the people separated (History of Lebanon). Now, instead of another countrys leader taking over, Lebanons own leaders are continuing to fan the flames of disagreement. Political leaders are being elected who are pro Syrian rule and they are allowing Syrians to cross the borders long enough to vote for them (Abou-Jaoude, P).
