Answer Hi Stu! Thanks for your question. There are actually “Classical eras” for different types of art, but I’ll just deal with music since that’s my specialty! The Classical Era in music lasted from 1750 to about the year 1800. It started in 1750 because that was the year that J.S. Bach died, and scholars have said that his death marked the end of the Baroque era. Some people will say that the Classical era ended in about 1825; there are valid arguments for both. Music from the Classical period was very formal and elegant than music of the Baroque era. The melodies were singable and light. Significant composers include Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Thanks to Beethoven (1770-1827), this style of music was short-lived. There is a significant difference in Beethoven’s early works (pre-1805) and his later works (post-1805).
