Answer Spencer… I have never really been satisfied with the answers I gave you about the ‘scrambled eggs’ on the officer’s caps. I checked further today, Sept 28, with a better expert on this board. Good hunting Alan Cagle Spencer… That is a very ironic question to ask me, because my father was a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF Reserve. He was promoted in the mid-50’s, but did not get a ‘scrambled egg’ hat until the early 60’s when his CO made him. I know in those days the USAF mandated the hats for LTC and above, while the Army used them for Major and above. Not sure about the Navy. Right off hand, I will have to do some more research and get back to you today. I had not had a question in a month and today I had two.
