When did samurai first appear?
The Samurai first appeared around 794 AD, during the Heian period (794 – 1185) of Japanese history They started out as warrior clans who lived on the outskirts of the Emperor’s territory and were constantly fighting the Ainu, Japan’s early inhabitants. When the Ainu were defeated, the warlords took advantage of the fact that theirs were the only experienced fighting men in Japan, and their influence rose from there.
