When did Russia join the Olympics?
Russia also competed in the 1908 and 1912 Games. After the Russian Revolution in 1917 and the subsequent creation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Russians would not compete in another Olympics until 1952. Russians competed under the USSR flag between 1952-1988. Upon the fall of the Soviet Union, the first Olympics that Russia competed in as a country was the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer.
