When did Mitsubishi and CBS begin their HDTV prime-time partnership?
As part of its commitment to increasing the availability and awareness of HDTV programming to television viewers, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc. (MDEA) signed a ground breaking HDTV sponsorship agreement with CBS Corporation. The agreement entails MDEA, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Mitsubishi Wireless Communications, Inc. underwriting exclusively the costs associated with producing the majority of CBS’ primetime film-based series programs in HDTV that will air throughout the 1999/2000 television season, beginning September, 1999. This agreement, which allows us to present the majority of our primetime lineup in the highest definition television format, represents the most significant step any network has taken in HDTV and further establishes CBS’s leadership in the transition to digital broadcasting.
