When did Michelangelo complete Day and Night?
The allegorical figures of ‘Night” and ‘Day’ were created by Michelangelo for the Medici Tomb in the Church of San Lorenzo. The complete project was never finished. Micheangelo began work on the ‘New Sacristry’ in 1534, the same year he left Florence, and work continued until he was nearly 60. The statues seem to rest uneasily on the ‘Tomb of Guiliano de’ Medici’ and are dated 1520-1534.
